A few months ago, I wrote a post entitled “Lady in Red”, where I talked about being intentional with my post and the power of color. Well, I decided to expound on that idea with a series I curated called, Colored. I patterned with Darrin Baldridge to execute this vision. The series currently feautures the colors purple, yellow, red, orange, blue, lime green, and it is growing. For me Colored has a double meaning; that existing of multiple colors and the symbolic representation of a person of nonwhite descent.

Colors are very important to me. They can define the mood of a person, they can also create a specific aura or energy in the atmosphere. Colors form an integral part of our lives. The spectacular hues have varying effects on human nature and mind. For example, most people associate the color yellow with energy or sunshine.

The power of colors cannot be denied, more so, as it is the soul instance of life on earth. Although sight and the human brain has helped in identifying colors and their delights, it's interesting to note what colors mean to us in totality. We see certain colors and are triggered to feel or react in certain ways.

As mentioned above, I try to be very intentional with everything I do. When branding myself or trying to choose an outfit that sets the tone for my day, I take color into consideration. And you should too! Hell, big companies use it draw is in, like McDonalds and their use of red and yellow. Researchers found that up to 90% of snap judgments made about products can be based on color alone, just let that sink in.

Now don’t get it confused, color is too dependent on personal experiences to be universally translated to specific feelings but it is still a helpful tool to use when trying to set an certain atmosphere. For an example, I am summer baby so warmer colors always attract my attention and bring out my best moods. I love wearing yellow because it looks great on my brown skin, it is bright, captivating, and very refreshing color. I feel like the Sun personified when I wear it.

What colors speak most to you and what colors will you allow to speak for you in 2018?

I just needed a photographer. I had everything else lined up to begin my blog, except a photographer. Queen of the selfies, but selfies would only get me so far. I had become really good at bribing friends to snap a picture or two but I knew there wasn't anything like working with someone who already had an eye. *sigh* I needed a photographer. That's when I came across Darrin. We had worked together before but for collaborations, none of my personal work. I knew he was talented and skilled in this craft; I knew I needed him.

It was a breath of fresh air the moment we linked for my first solo project. He did an amazing job bringing my vision to life. Whether my posture was professional, sensual, playful, it didn't matter. I was giving many vibes in this particular shoot and Darrin captured every last one. See for yourself in the images below!
